The Cities of North Little Rock and Little Rock and Pulaski County have worked
together in an effort to improve the quality of life of residents of Central
Arkansas by developing pedestrian and bicycle trails in scenic areas. The City of North Little Rock, in the Fall of 2001, began construction of the Scenic River trail located along the north bank of the Arkansas River from the NLR quarry to Cook’s Landing near the Murry Hydroelectric facility. The trail was constructed at a cost of $ 406,165 as part of the Arkansas Transportation Enhancement Program. Features of the project include a 12’ paved pedestrian/bike trail, scenic overlooks, landscaped rock walls for erosion control and other design features to enhance the trails use for joggers and walkers. The trail has been very popular among the local residents and future plans for additional trails are underway. |
