The Cities of North Little Rock, Little Rock and Pulaski County have worked together in an effort to improve the quality of life of residents of Central Arkansas by developing pedestrian and bicycle trails in scenic areas.
The City of North Little Rock, in the Fall of 2001, began construction of the Scenic River trail located along the north bank of the Arkansas River from the NLR quarry to Cook’s Landing near the Murry Hydroelectric facility. The trail was constructed at a cost of $406,165 as part of the Arkansas Transportation Enhancement Program.
Features of the project include a 12’ paved pedestrian/bike trail, scenic overlooks, landscaped rock walls for erosion control and other design features to enhance the trails use for joggers and walkers. The trail has been very popular among the local residents and future plans for additional trails are underway.
Burns Park Girls Softball Complex
The Burns Park Girls Softball Facility is located in Burns Park in North Little Rock, Arkansas, and is the premier softball facility in the State of Arkansas. The project area is located in Burns Park which maintains over 1575 acres in park land and is the second largest municipally owned park in the United States, second to New York's Central Park.
The facility includes five softball fields, 300 feet in length, drainage facilities and utilities, and complete lighting. A two-level 4200 square foot building houses concessions, rest rooms, electrical systems, individual press rooms, and score rooms that directly face each field and elevators to provide access to the upper level of the building. The five fields are symmetrically located around the building providing easy access from each field.
