Central Arkansas Sewer Systems
Wastewater System Improvements

In 1994, The Central Arkansas Sewer System which serves over 1500 customers in Sherwood, Arkansas undertook a $2.0 million sewer collection system rehabilitation and wastewater treatment plant improvement project to bring the system in compliance with State Discharge requirements and bring the sewer collection system in compliance with Arkansas Department of Health requirements. The Central Arkansas Sewer System treats a flow of 0.50 MGD serving 1500 customers. The new treatment facility completed in June, 1995 converted the existing facultative lagoon to an activated sludge system contained in an earthen basin utilizing the existing lagoon as sludge storage. The activated sludge facility is followed by a clarifier, tertiary filter and disinfection by ultra-violet light. Discharge monitoring reports have shown TSS limits average less than 1.0 mg/l and BOD has averaged less than 3 mg/l. Wastewater quality monitoring tests have met ADPCE permit limits since the system was placed on line.
